Stained Glass Contains Lead
Stained glass is perfectly safe to have in your home, just be sure to wash your hands after handling and keep out of reach of children and pets. Lead only enters the body through ingestion or inhalation of lead dust, so please don’t lick your stained glass! All of my pieces are polished with a protective wax coating which helps keep your piece clean and shiny.
Lead-Free Options
Any pieces that will be handled frequently such as jewelry, boxes, night lights, etc. will always be made using lead-free solder and separate tools to ensure no cross-contamination of lead.
If you would like a piece to be made lead-free that is normally made using lead, please email me at wickedpixieglass@gmail.com to arrange a custom order. Please note that lead-free solder is more expensive and more difficult to work with than lead solder and will thus cost a bit more than its leaded version.
Hanging Your Piece
Most pieces will come attached with either a chain or a cord to hang your piece from. It is recommended to hang stained glass from a screw hook or a nail. I strongly advise against using suction cups as there is a high rate of failure (even if your piece is small) resulting in your piece falling and breaking, which neither of us wants! If you can’t use a nail or hook, you can utilize sturdy parts of your window such as the latch.
If you’re having trouble hanging your piece, DM or email me and I’ll see if I can give some other helpful suggestions!
Cleaning Your Piece
Over time your piece will naturally oxidize and lose some of its shine. You can periodically clean your piece to bring it back to life! Although I clean and polish my work as thoroughly as I can before sending your item, small amounts of chemicals or polish can get left behind, which over time may lead to a “white crust” appearance along some of the solder lines, this can be removed by gently scrubbing the area with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol. I do not recommend using water to clean your piece as it can sometimes affect the solder and patina.
Dusting – You can dust your piece with a cotton cloth or microfiber towel for a quick clean.
Glass Cleaner – I recommend Sprayaway ammonia free Glass Cleaner. Simply spray on the front and back of the piece and buff off with a microfiber towel! Do not use any harsh chemicals or ammonia glass cleaners.
Polish – If you would like to shine up the solder lines you can use carnauba car wax. Spread a thin layer along the entire piece using a microfiber towel and let dry. Rub the solder with the towel until it begins to shine again, and continue until all the wax is wiped off. You may need to use a soft bristle toothbrush to get the wax out of all the nooks and crannies, this process can take a while!
Can I copy/buy your patterns?
I do not currently sell any of my patterns, all of my designs are copyrighted and are not allowed to be reproduced for personal nor commercial use at this time. There are a ton of great free patterns available here or here. I’m sure that you have beautiful ideas of your own that you can create as well, just give it a try 🙂
Do you offer customs/commissions?
Customs – If you would like to customize glass colors for current a design of mine, simply email me at wickedpixieglass@gmail.com with the design and color scheme you are wanting.
Commissions – My commissions are open on a case-by-case basis. I would love to hear about your envisioned project to see if we would be a good fit together! Commissions are priced based on the amount of time to finish, the cost of materials (glass, foil, solder, framing), and shipping. Due to this process, exact prices cannot be given until your piece is complete. An estimated price will be given based upon previous projects as well as an agreed-upon maximum budget that I will not go over. Commissions are a collaborative process, communication throughout the project will be a priority!
Commissioned projects will require a 50% deposit after a final pattern is agreed upon. The remaining 50% will be required upon project completion before your piece is shipped out.
Email me at wickedpixieglass@gmail.com with your commission inquiry and I will get back to you as soon as possible!
